The album was recorded 5th March through to 30th April, with some overdubbing being done right up to July 1973 in the Sunset Sound Studios (Los Angeles) and Apple Studios (London). Also, some additional recording were made at the Burbank Studios (Los Angeles) and EMI Studios (London). Engineer – Bill Schnee.

This is the only one solo album of the ex-Beatles in which took part all FAB 4. However, they were not all in the studio at the same time. Initial sessions took place in early March in Los Angeles. A few days later, George (who was originally in town to work with Ravi Shankar) participated in the recording of Photograph and Sunshine Life For Me (Sail Away Raymond). Then, John and Yoko hit Los Angeles and John recorded I'm The Greatest with George and Ringo. On 16th April at the Apple Studios in Saville Row in London, Paul and Linda join Ringo for 15 takes of Six O'Clock.

* − under the name Bobby Keyes should be understood Bobby Keys (real name is Robert Henry Keys). An American saxophonist who performed with musicians as George Harrison, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono and many others. But best known for his works with The Rolling Stones. In various sources he is often indicated under different names. Most likely this is a pseudonym.

This album was released in the USA by Jacksonville, Los Angeles and Winchester. The main table shows an example of a matrix number from the Winchester factory.

After the first (large) pressing, the members realized that Ringo's cover of Randy Newman's 1970 song Have You Seen My Baby was mislabeled as Hold On wherever it appeared. New covers and new booklets with the correct title were produced for the second pressing in 1974. However, all Apple labels still bore the mislabeled Hold On.

Another last-second change resulted in the removal of the coda of Paul's main contribution: Six O'Clock. At its original length, the song lasted 5:26 and returned after what seemed to be a final closing with a vamp ending. However, the production staff decided to snip the ending – trimming the song to 4:09. All of the label copy remained uncorrected, showing 5:26, but the vast majority of copies of the record were altered to play the shorter edit. What few copies exist seem to have been part of the initial batch of promotional copies – some of them having left the pressing plant without covers. One is able to recognize these copies without playing them.
Firstly: the matrix suffix shown in the trail-off of side two is Z15 or lower on the first-pressing copies with the long version of Six O'Clock. The more common records have higher numbers, such as Z19, or even as high as Z26.
Secondly: you can visually notice that the path in the middle of the second side is wider than any other one located on the edges.

So, there are three Apple cover variations:
1 – The original cover lists the album’s second track as Hold On and has the performance copyright claimed by The Gramophone Company, Ltd. below the green Apple logo at the bottom center of the back cover.
2 – The new (second) batch of covers lists the album’s second track as Have You Seen My Baby and also has The Gramophone Company, Ltd. copyright claim.
3 – The final version of the cover lists the album’s second track as Have You Seen My Baby and has the performance copyright claim by EMI.

Some late Apple copies have a circular promotional sticker on the shrink wrap that includes a mention of the release of three singles [see Pic. 1].

Non-laminated gatefold cover. "Sgt. Pepper" style cover art by Tim Bruckner. The album was packaged with a 24-page 29,5 x 29,5 cm (11,6 x 11,6 inch) booklet featuring album credits, song lyrics and Klaus Voormann lithographs depicting each of the songs. The booklet carries on a joke from George Harrison's Living In The Material World LP by providing information on the Jim Keltner Fan Club. Fans are advised to send a stamped undressed envelope to the address for Capitol Records in Hollywood.

The booklet is the inside of the envelope. Some copies contain European-made booklets.

You can also find a stamp 'TML' in matrix number is refers to 'THE MASTERING LAB' that is located in Los Angeles and established by Doug Sax - a great mastering engineer. Was back then considered one of the best ever mastering studios.

Розкладна обкладинка не ламінована. Обкладинка у стилі "Сержанта Пеппера" намальована Тімом Брукнером (Tim Bruckner).
